HRI, Central Research Centre, National Institute of Health (NIH), Islamabad was established in 1974. The Executive Director, NIH is the Honorary Director of the Centre. The Centre has been conducting research on communicable diseases pertaining to national health issues, which includes diarrhea, hepatitis, malaria, environmental health and tick borne diseases.

Research Centre National Health Research Complex

 Shaikh Zayed Hospital, Lahore

 

National Health Research Complex (NHRC) was established during 1985-1986 as a main centre, to honor the mandate given to the Pakistan Health Research Council.

NHRC was the lead organization for National Health Survey of Pakistan (1990-94) and has been the focus of research activities both nationally and internationally. It was designated as the centre for health service research for the country.

The centre has geared itself to develop technology for production of local diagnostic kits, so far centre is successful to produce assay reagents for Microalbuminuria and anti Thyroid Peroxidase, Glycated hemoglobin, Salivary progesterone, Myeloperoxidase, blood spot TSH and hs-CRP. This would help to reduce the dependence on international commercial agencies as well as to make it cost effective for diagnostics and research.

The centre has also established Institutional Review Board (IRB) of Shaikh Zayed Medical Complex and is coordinating with researchers for undertaking activities directed to the Bioethical issues in research and services.

In year 2010 centre has taken a lead is starting Lahore Bioethics Group, where  doctors and researchers from different hospitals and teaching institutes meet and discuss ethical issues faced in professional life in addition to self learning sessions related to discipline of Bioethics.

Specialized Research Centre for Metabolic Diseases

Research Centre Fatima Jinnah Medical University, Lahore

 

 

The centre was established in 1962 at Fatima Jinnah Medical University, Lahore and is providing research facilities in non-communicable metabolic disorders especially diabetes mellitus, hypertension, dyslipidemia and other related aspects of the disorders. It was the first established “Diabetic Clinic” which is providing the diagnostic, management and patient education facilities along with research.

The Centre has experienced researchers, medical and technical staff complemented with laboratory, computer and internet facilities as well as the administrative staff. Many postgraduate students (Ph.D, M.Phil, FCPS, M.Sc., & B.S.) use the research facilities to complete their thesis work.

TB Research Centre

King Edward Medical University, Lahore

 

HRI TB Research Centre, Mayo Hospital, King Edward Medical University, Lahore was established in 1973 as a specialized centre for tuberculosis where almost 95% cases of tuberculosis are provided free diagnostic facilities. The centre is acting as a training centre for tuberculosis for the provincial government and DOTs program. Latest diagnostic laboratory equipments are provided by National TB Control Program (NTP) while tests for diagnosis of Mycobacterium tuberculosis which includes microscopy, culture and drug susceptibility testing for first as well second line of anti-tubercular drugs are performed. Almost all the departments of the hospital are utilizing diagnostic facilities of the centre and around 70 patients visit TB centre daily to get their tests done. The centre is also working for NTP as National Referral Laboratory for culture and monitoring of drug resistance in anti TB drugs.

The centre has been renovated and equipped to cater the growing needs in the field of research. Now we are working on first line anti TB drugs along with second line anti TB drugs.

Research Centre Faisalabad Medical University, Faisalabad.

 

HRI Research Centre, Faisalabad Medical University, Faisalabad (www.PHRCfsd.wordpress.com) was established in 1983 with a mandate to promote, conducts and coordinate health research in Faisalabad. Since then the Centre has not only struggled to inculcate research culture locally but also played a vital role in the establishment and functioning of Ethical Review Committee (ERC) at Punjab Medical College, Faisalabad. The Centre has been declared as the Secretariat of the ERC and the Centre Incharge has been assigned the responsibility of secretary of the committee. Centre receives numerous research proposals from various research organizations around the city for ethical clearance each year. Furthermore, Centre Incharge is also member of ERC at Faisalabad Institute of Cardiology (FIC).

 

Moreover, Centre has established its own mosquito-rearing facility in recent years, which is being utilized by numerous researchers from University of Agriculture, Faisalabad. Currently, researchers at the Centre are rearing Aedes aegypti mosquitoes in the laboratory. The facility will also be available to commercial organizations for the testing of chemical and biological insecticides.Researchers at HRI Research Centre, Faisalabad are also on the editorial board of Annals of Punjab Medical College (APMC), a medical research journal of the host institute.

Specialized Research Centre For Gastroenterology and Hepatology

Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, Karachi

 

The HRI Research Centre at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, Karachi was established in 1968. The Director Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre is the Honorary Director of the centre.

 

The centre has its own building while the land was donated by the host institution while the building was constructed by a philanthropist who supports the janitorial services to maintain the hygiene and also providing medicine for outdoor patients. The centre is designated as the specialized centre for gastroenterology and hepatology. It has an OPD which can accommodate about 60 patients, 3 rooms for doctors to examine the patients, two computer stations for recording/data entry of the cases, it has an out patients department where patients with these ailments are referred from all over the country for diagnosis and treatment. Laboratory facilities are also provided to the patients to facilitate the services under one roof. A comprehensive clinical and research data on all cases is maintained at this centre.

National Institute of Child Health, Karachi

 

The HRI Specialized Research Centre for Child Health was established in 2002 in the premises of National Institute of Child Health (NICH). The key objective is to organize, promote, coordinate and conduct research on various pediatric health issues at national level. The host institute, NICH is one of the leading tertiary care children hospitals of the country, providing medical care to a large segment of the society. Its catchment area includes not only Karachi but also the interior Sindh. The Director of the institute is the Honorary Director of the HRI Research Centre.

Research Centre Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences, Jamshoro.

 

This research centre of Pakistan Medical Research Council, Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences, Jamshoro was established during the year 1979-80. The centre is located in the Medical Research Centre of Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences, Jamshoro. The accommodation and its maintenance is provided free of charge by the host institute.

The Vice Chancellor of Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences, Jamshoro is the Honorary Director and administrative head of the centre. An advisory committee has been constituted amongst the senior faculty members of Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences, Jamshoro. Honorary principal research officer has also been appointed for supervision of research work.

Specialized Research Centre For Traditional Medicine

Khyber Medical College, Peshawar

 

The HRI Research Centre at Khyber Medical College was established in 1975. The Principal Khyber Medical College is the Honorary Director of the Research Centre. The Center is involved in clinical as well as community based research projects and provides laboratory and statistical support to the research workers and also helps them in report writing.

One of the objectives of the centre is to develop a model community and conduct community based surveys and data collection of a longitudinal study Health System Research at village Budhni, Peshawar.

The centre provides research facilities to the teaching staff, trainee medical officers (TMO), postgraduate and undergraduate paramedics of the Post Graduate Medical Institute (PGMI) Hayatabad Medical Complex, Khyber Teaching Hospital and Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar. The University of Peshawar has recognized the HRI Centre and affiliated it for postgraduate research work since 1981. Till date a number of M.Phil / FCPS and PhD scholars have been awarded degrees by Peshawar University and CPSP, based on their research work carried out at the HRI Research Center.

The centre has experienced and trained technical manpower to undertake lab and community based studies. Services of a Statistician and data management cell are available to facilitate researchers. The centre is providing laboratory diagnostic facilities in biochemistry, microbiology, hematology, serology, parasitology and molecular biology. The Cnetre has well equipped Lab with PCR and ELISA facilities.

Pakistan Medical Research Centre, Bolan Medical College is the only centre of the province of Balochistan established in 1979. It is located in the Bolan Medical Complex Hospital, Quetta, which is a tertiary care hospital attached with Bolan Medical College, Quetta.  The Principal, Bolan Medical College is the Honorary Director of the Center. The Center is providing technical and secretarial assistance to the host institution for carrying out research. It is also facilitates and provide guidance to the researchers and post graduate/M. Phil students of  the host institution as well as other institutions in the province, to promote health research.
