Since its establishment, NIH has been dedicatedly contributing to the health sector of Pakistan. Numerous developments have been made in laboratory diagnostics, vaccine and anti-sera production, food and drug quality control, research & development, and various training ventures. The institute is actively involved in the laboratory and field investigation of infectious diseases along with emphasis on human resource development and capacity building. With the ever increasing number of infectious diseases and epidemics across the country, the role of the institute has become more critical than ever; however, we are committed to handle these challenges. Additionally, NIH has recently been designated as National Public Health Institute with a broader mandate of disease surveillance. The establishment of state-of-the-art ‘Emergency Operations Centre’ and ‘Information Technology Hub’ has now put us on par with the leading health organization. The institute stands as a focal point for IHR 2005 and also provides support for the implementation of GHSA in Pakistan. It is indeed a national asset.
